RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK (RTP), NORTH CAROLINA – June 2011
In the Machine to Machine (M2M) ecosystem, customers and distributors manage large numbers of cellular modules. Often the module firmware in inventory has become outdated or doesn’t contain the firmware version you need. To fix the problem with a developer board, you load one at a time in a cumbersome, time consuming fashion and the cost for a full-blown multi-unit test fixture is upwards of ten thousand dollars. With the new Sierra Wireless Q26 Firmware Gang Loader from ClearConnex, updating firmware just got easier, faster and more economical.

LARGE NUMBER OF MODULES? NO PROBLEM.
The new Sierra Wireless Q26 Firmware Gang Loader is the latest hardware product from ClearConnex and enhances ClearConnex’s support services. One part of ClearConnex’s support service includes cost effectively performing firmware updates for distributors and customers with large quantities of modules.

This new hardware product offers the capacity to load firmware on four Q26s at the same time. The bottom line? When you need to ensure your inventory has the correct firmware, the new Sierra Wireless Q26 Firmware Gang Loader from ClearConnex is for you.

ClearConnex CTO, Ryan Rangel, explains, “The Q26 Firmware Gang Loader offers most of the functionality of a developer board. We can adapt this board to ANY cellular or wireless module. For us designing and building this board was straightforward due to our extensive experience doing M2M hardware designs.”

Rangel points out a few other things. “We originally designed this board for internal use to provide customers and partners with a cost effective firmware loading service. Even though we are offing this hardware for purchase, if any of our partners and customers need firmware updated on a large number of units, we’re here for you. In fact, we can quickly rework this board for use for other cellular modules as well.”

JUST THE BEGINNING.
Manuel Zepeda, ClearConnex President, adds, “The Sierra Wireless Q26 Firmware Gang Loader is just a starting point for us. The next step is building developer boards for a variety of wireless modules. I look forward to the day when all cellular module companies recognize that having ClearConnex Developer Boards and Gang Loaders are a more cost effective and timely solution than building these types of solutions in house.”

Zepeda has big plans, “This summer we are planning on releasing similar boards that support the Sierra Wireless SL6087, SL8080, and Wismo. Then we move on to boards for other cellular module vendors.”

Currently, the list of modules the new board supports includes the Sierra Wireless Q2687, Q26 Extreme and Q26 Elite. The board is list priced at $1095. The board can be modified for any cellular module.
